New Release: Latest vintage of the Family Paddock wines set to be the best yet

We are pleased to announce the release of our much-anticipated, latest vintage of Family Paddock wines. The release was celebrated on Wednesday evening at Vue de Monde, with a bespoke menu designed to pair perfectly to each wine.

The four Family Paddock wines, each named after a family member, come from grapes grown on what was once just a steep rocky hill at the family homestead, which experts said could not be planted.

Today, each of the wines have won multiple international awards, each crafted as single vineyard and single block wine inspired by the Grand Cru wines of Burgundy and First Growth wines of Bordeaux.

Our winemaker Paul Bridgeman is excited about the release of the flagship wines. “We’re releasing what we believe will be our finest Family Paddock wines yet. The 2015 vintage in the Yarra Valley is considered as one of the best in recent memory. Ideal growing conditions at every stage have given the fruit optimal opportunity to achieve perfect ripeness, balance & concentration. Samantha’s Paddock 2015 has already won three gold medals at internationally renowned wine competitions before it’s official release, which is an incredible achievement,’’ said Bridgeman.

The award-winning wines, which are officially released this week, are:

2015 Samantha’s Paddock Mélange Traditionnel

Wine from the block that the experts said could not be planted. It is known as the “impossible wine” because of the steepness of the land, presence of underground, rocky seams and outcrops that were thought to be insurmountable. In keeping with the traditional varieties of Bordeaux, this wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

2015 Melissa’s Paddock Syrah

From our smallest vineyard, this wine is inspired by the very best Hermitage examples of the Rhône Valley. It is bottled as “Syrah” in recognition of its refined structure, savoury flavour and eloquently spiced nuance.

2015 Colleen’s Paddock Pinot Noir

Inspired by the Grand Crus red wines of Burgundy, Colleen’s Paddock is perfectly positioned in a suntrap on a steep slope on the lowest and coolest part of the family estate.

2016 Katherine’s Paddock Chardonnay

Geographically a mirror image of Samantha’s Paddock, this wine deliberately eschews traditional takes on Yarra Valley Chardonnay, demonstrating that body, flavour and palate weight can co-exist.

And just like that – the 2024 vintage season has been a memorable and truly extraordinary harvest period. Our wettest December/January growing period on record was followed by the driest February/March on record, bringing on our earliest harvest start since 2016 and the most consistently intense and relentless harvest period that the winemaking team can recall in its 27 Yarra Valley vintages.
