Levant Range

The Levant, adapted from the French word ‘rise’, is a geographical reference to the ancient lands along the Eastern shores of the Mediterranean where the sun rises. It is from this word that the name ‘Levantine Hill’ was born.

These cool-climate, classic Yarra Valley varietals have been delicately crafted and blended by our winemaker to be drinkable now, whilst also being suitable for ageing.

Each Levant wine is a unique expression of that year’s vintage. These wines are an exceptional example of the Yarra Valley as an internationally-recognised cool-climate winemaking region. Levant wines possess an approachability, crafted to be enjoyed now with great food and good company.

Levant Chardonnay
The Chardonnay grapes were whole bunch pressed. The resultant wines were aged on settled lees with minimal stirring, and 100% malolactic fermentation was undertaken on a number of barrels for enhanced richness and complexity. Aromas of orange blossom, frangipani flower, Meyer lemon, grapefruit pith, custard apple and lemon verbena with a subtle savoury undercurrent of lovage, flint and some struck match complexity. The palate is deep, long and flavourful with lemon posset and petrichor undertones washing over a refreshing base of integrated acidity. This wine has an ageing potential of five or more years.

Levant Pinot Noir
100% Pinot Noir grapes were hand-picked, hand-sorted, and mostly de-stemmed. Stalks were added back to roughly 20% of the fermenters to contribute additional structure and aromatic complexity. Bright cherry and raspberry fruit aromas rise to the fore with background hints of rosemary, lavender, rose petal and dark chocolate sitting above an underlying steely note. An intense entry onto the palate with fruit-forward red cherry, plum and rhubarb flavour. This Pinot Noir is well-framed, poised and structured with weighty fruit emboldened by a base of firm tannins and fine acidity.

Levant Shiraz
The fruit was hand-picked and sorted and mostly destemmed to retain intact whole berries that were tipped to five open vats. A measured amount of stalks were added back to complement aroma, complexity and tannin. Intense aromas abound of white pepper, cloves, cardamom pods, ginger, Damson plums with an underlying hum of stalky complexity. A fine acid line, chewy youthful tannins and high-tone oak define the palate supporting flavours of red and black fruits and subtle herbal, charred meats and sous-bois characters. This wine has an extremely deep and flavourful finish that lingers.

Levant Cabernet Sauvignon
A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the fruit was hand-picked and sorted. A considered amount of stalks were added back to complement aroma, complexity and tannin. Dark brooding intensely varietal fruit characters showcase signature aromas of cassis, anise, sarsaparilla, chocolate and freshly-ground coffee, underpinned by typically classic herbal notes. A subtle structural palate is present with slow-building fruit washing over the bed of youthful chalky tannins. Red currant, cocoa nib and charry oak characters feature with a Chinotto-like flavour on the long-drawn finish.
