“It dips its lid strongly in the direction of Burgundy. Foresty, humus notes abound in the strongly whole-bunch influenced bouquet and flavour. The dark cherry mid-palate is profound and very long, with abundant tannin and savouriness. A serious pinot with gravitas and structure.” - Huon Hooke
Inspired by the Grand Crus red wines of Burgundy, Colleen’s Paddock is perfectly positioned in a suntrap on a steep slope on the lowest and coolest part of the family estate. The steepness of the vineyard provides huge variations in ripening times, which means fruit picking in this tiny Pinot Noir block takes place over many weeks to ensure perfect ripeness in each small aliquot. This wine exhibits an unfurling intensifying power and charm from an unusually warm and fast-tracked vintage, this medium-bodied yet voluminous Pinot Noir delivers beguiling aromas of maraschino cherry, goji berry, nutmeg, kirsch and dark chocolate, earth, sandalwood, fresh King Oyster mushroom and graphite with underlying stalk-derived herbal notes. Showing a vibrancy and fine lines which bely the relatively warm growing season, the palate opens up to reveal dark flavours, married with spice, sarsparilla and zesty citrus.
