Levantine Hill’s 2021 Optume Shiraz has been awarded 98 points by The Real Review, the highest score achieved by any Shiraz from the Yarra Valley in the 2021 vintage. This distinguished accolade confirms Optume’s place at the pinnacle of cool-climate Shiraz expression, recognised by critics and collectors alike for its complexity, balance and extraordinary length.
The 2021 vintage offered ideal conditions for the fourth release of Optume Shiraz, resulting in a wine that embodies the purest expression of the Yarra Valley’s cool-climate typicity. Sourced from six premium vineyard sites and crafted with meticulous attention to detail, only 1,788 bottles were produced - a true testament to its rarity and singular quality.
Aromatically brooding yet refined, this Shiraz weaves a rich tapestry of red and black fruits, savoury spice, loganberry, cranberry and plum compote, underpinned by notes of white pepper, clove, black lime and porcini broth. On the palate, the wine is juicy and slow-building - where elegance and density are perfectly balanced, framed by finely pixelated tannins and a long, resonant finish. Decanting is recommended to fully reveal its depth at a young age.
This 98-point rating confirms what we have long believed: Optume Shiraz is not merely a wine, but a definitive expression of the Yarra Valley’s cool-climate Shiraz potential; a wine of nuance, persistence and enduring allure for both the cellar and the table.
