Levantine Hill, recently crowned Australia’s top-three winery, is pleased to announce the appointment of Duncan Thomson in the new role of Chief Executive Officer of Hotels and Hospitality, heralding an exciting new era of expansion for the Yarra Valley icon.
Nationally recognised as one of the most experienced hospitality, lifestyle and entertainment operators in the industry and a Finalist for CEO Magazine’s 2024 CEO of the Year, Mr Thomson brings more than two decades of leadership to Levantine Hill’s broad portfolio of business units. The winemaking, restaurant experience, retail, and events operations will soon be joined by accommodation – with the opening of a luxurious 33-room hotel due in early 2026. Mr Thomson will lead the opening of the Fender Katsalidis-designed hotel, further cementing Levantine Hill as a national icon and international destination.
“Levantine Hill is unapologetic in its ambition, and that is something that really resonated with me personally. It’s a place where premium wine, food, and hospitality come together to create extraordinary experiences. I am honoured to join a business whose values mirror my own – authenticity, quality, with an ongoing pursuit of perfection. I look forward to leading the team to continue creating experiences that inspire pride, passion, and loyalty in our visitors, as well as team members.” said Mr Thomson.
Mr Thomson’s diverse background and trailblazing attitude has grown from leading small boutique wine bars, national restaurant groups, to major entertainment and lifestyle precincts such as Arts Centre Melbourne, and Melbourne Racing Club. He was a director and inaugural Group CEO of major national hospitality group Kickon Group Australia, more recently the CEO of the $120 million redevelopment of the Continental Sorrento with famed hatted Scott Pickett restaurant, Audreys., which he took to win Best Restaurant for Vic as well as national acclaim as 2024 Best Restaurant Australia (AHA Awards). Under Duncan’s leadership, the Continental Sorrento went on to win several other major industry accolades for Best Conference and Events Venue and Best Marketed Venue (AHA Vic Awards).
“My immediate focuses at Levantine Hill are to continue to push boundaries with our culinary offer, strategically reposition conferences and events, and lead the launch of a new 33-room luxury hotel. This integrated vision will elevate Levantine Hill as not only Australia’s most prestigious wine estate, but also a global destination of excellence. There is much to do, and I am excited by the challenge.” said Mr Thomson.
With Mr Thomson leading hospitality and hotels, Levantine Hill hopes to continue to attract the industry’s best talent, fostering a culture where ambition is nurtured and excellence is celebrated. For guests, the Estate will deliver not just visits, but memorable journeys defined by exceptional and unique wine, food, and lifestyle experiences.
