2022 Glen Garvald Rosé

Named after an historical surveyor’s geographic marker overlooking our vineyard, Glen Garvald wines represent our varietal and replanting response to climate change.

This wine takes its stylistic and varietal cues from the intense, dry and savoury styles of France’s Southern Rhône Valley where Grenache Noir is overwhelmingly the main variety utilized in Rosé and red wine production.

Featuring beguiling aromas of macerated strawberries, red cherries, mandarin zest, ginger, musk, maquis and granite, the palate follows with lively flavours of strawberries and cream, blood orange, rhubarb, alfalfa, tahini and fennel seed.

The colour is vibrant suggesting impact and dryness, the aroma bold and enticing, the palate draws long, juicy and textural indicating a very promising long game for this style and blend in the Yarra Valley.

Wine Making

Sourced entirely from our Estate 2015 plantings of Southern Rhône red varieties, all fruit was hand-picked, then destemmed or crushed. Juice for this wine was drawn either as whole-bunch pressing or as saignée (juice run-off) from each of the component varieties. Racked to old neutral oak puncheons for natural fermentation & maturation on lees.

Winemaker’s Notes

This wine takes its stylistic and varietal cues from the intense, dry and savoury styles of France’s Southern Rhône Valley where Grenache Noir is overwhelmingly the main variety utilized in rosé and red wine production. The 2022 vintage Glen Garvald Rosé represents our continuing forays into tapping into the potential of Grenache and its sun-loving Mediterranean stablemates as stand-alone varieties and malleable blends as potential future mainstay’s of the Yarra Valley.

Featuring beguiling aromas of orange zest, ginger, musk, granite, alfalfa, charcuterie and crème anglais, the palate follows with pronounced vibrant flavours of blood orange, cardamom, fennel and spice. Overall the colour is vibrant, the aroma bold and enticing, the palate draws long, juicy & textural indicating a very promising long game for this style and blend in our Valley.

This wine is suitable for vegans.
