Introducing our Estate white wines from the 2019 vintage, we are delighted to offer our members priority access to purchase these new releases. Incredibly food friendly wines, they can both also be enjoyed now, or carefully cellared for future enjoyment.
The 2019 Yarra Valley vintage maintained a theme and pattern set with the preceding odd-years in the decade – namely 2017 and 2015 – by offering up a protracted ripening and harvest period of very low-yields prior to a short burst of warmth in early March.
"These factors combined to result in a suite of wines from our vineyards of extraordinary depth, concentration, perfume and presence while still maintaining the regional typicity of finesse and medium-bodied nature, " said winemaker Paul Bridgeman.
2019 Estate Sauvignon Blanc Semillon
Lifted aromas of mandarin zest, crème anglaise, passionfruit, rockmelon, papaya, cashew nut and pine-lime splice interplay with undertones of slate, lanolin and parsley contributed by the Semillon. The trademark expansive, long and lingering palate, enhanced by barrel fermentation on varying levels of grape solids, presents as focussed and persistent with a fine drive of acidity and the hint of tactile tannin. The inclusion of tank-fermented Semillon channels a fine backbone of natural acidity to underpin the tangy grapefruit, mango cream and endive flavours and a textured finish.
We recommend serving at 10-12˚C to accentuate weight, length and flavour. The perfect pairing for crumpets at brunch, roasted chicken or smoked salmon. Drink now or be rewarded with careful cellaring for 8+ years.
"A fuller style with richness and texture, breadth and amplitude. There is a touch of tannin too, and the aftertaste runs long. A satisfying full-bodied dry white." - Huon Hooke for The Real Review
2019 Estate Semillon
An historical but relatively unheralded Yarra Valley stalwart, Semillon rarely gets the chance in this region to singularly represent itself in bottle. However, the 2019 vintage offered a blend of two Semillon barrels from our single block of such intricate and self-confident expression, that we felt compelled to bottle a small amount as a single varietal. Subtle aromas of flint, oyster shell, lemon zest, thyme, lychee, graphite and petrichor reflect the long favourable growing season. Subtle juicy acidity shapes the pithy palate with overlaying tactile suppleness. Nougat character from barrel fermentation interplays with Meyer lemon; nashi pear, and olive brine flavours enhanced by the barest hint of complexing tannin building subtle weight and depth of flavour.
Its innate charms will provide immediacy of enjoyment, but further complexity and richness will be the reward of careful ageing for 10+ years.
We recommend serving at 8-10˚C to highlight the textural elements of the wine. Enjoy with grilled calamari, shellfish, pork cutlets, kingfish or a goat's cheese salad.
