If you’re planning a day trip or weekend to the Yarra Valley this summer, you might be wondering what else you can pack into your day(s), other than visiting some of the region’s finest cellar doors. Whilst we’re biased and think a long lunch at Levantine Hill should be at the top of your list, here are our top 5 favourite places to visit:
TarraWarra Museum of Art
313 Healesville-Yarra Glen Road, Healesville VIC 3777
If a little bit of art is more your thing, you can’t go past visiting the TarraWarra Museum of Art. Having opened in 2003, it has become a cultural icon in the Yarra Valley.
Combining the best of modern and contemporary art with stunning architecture, it has a diverse program of exhibitions and events.
Don’t miss – Sydney Nolan, one of Australia’s leading artists of the 20th Century, will have over 100 of his works from the period 1955-1966 on display from 4 December 2021 to 6 March 2022.
739 Maroondah Highway, Coldstream, VIC, 3770
474 Queens Rd, Wandin East, VIC 3139
There’s nothing that signals summer and Christmas more than the sight of cherries in the shops and CherryHill Orchards has long been a favourite of ours to go cherry picking.
This year they have opened their Coldstream orchard to the public for the first time. If cherry picking isn’t your thing, be sure to pop in and pick up a 2kg box on your way home.
Don’t miss – Cherries are only in season for a short time, so be sure to book ahead to avoid disappointment.
Glen Eadie Ave, Healesville VIC 3777
If you’re looking for somewhere suitable for big and small kids alike, a visit to the zoo at the world-renowned Healesville Sanctuary is a must.
We’re lucky to have a zoo on our doorstep in Healesville that provides a unique Australian wildlife experience, allowing us to see the animals in their natural habitat.
Don’t miss – A VIP Sanctuary tour will allow you to get closer to the koalas and kangaroos, while a ranger will share stories and insights about the native wildlife.
Blue Lotus Water Garden
2628 Warburton Hwy, Yarra Junction VIC 3797
A seasonal attraction that will be open for four months from 26 December 2021, the Blue Lotus Water Garden is the largest display of lotus and waterlily flowers in the southern hemisphere.
A spectacular tropical-themed garden, containing more than 40 ponds, lakes and water features, it’s a sight to behold. You could easily get lost in the beauty for hours.
Don’t miss – The stunning Monet’s Lake, featuring a prized collection of Claude Monet’s original waterlilies.
Yarra Valley Dairy
70-80 McMeikans Rd, Yering VIC 3770
With the cheese shop located in a 100 year old milking shed on their farm, you’ll definitely feel like you’ve left the hustle and bustle of the city when you arrive.
Enjoy tastings of their fresh cheeses or sit down and enjoy a cheese platter with charcuterie and other local artisan produce.
Don’t miss – the Persian feta is our absolute favourite cheese – don’t miss it!
